Mental health help may soon be a TV away

In July, the Human Development Center will begin connecting Bauer once a month to patients at the Cook County North Shore Hospital using secure, high-capacity telephone lines, computers, televisions and microphones.

It is the Duluth nonprofit’s first telepsychiatry clinic. The link will allow Bauer to treat patients during time usually spent driving along Highway 61. The doctor won’t end his in-person visits to see patients, but will alternate face-to-face meetings with seeing patients via video, reducing by half the amount of constructive time lost while driving.
