Reluctant Boyfriend

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

Q: Hi, > I have this weird friendship with a guy 4 years older than me. i like him. He is so cute, unique, caring and intelligent. He comes over often and we watch movies holding hands, hugging and almost kissing (never kissed yet) and we both know that we are not "just friends". We have been flirting with each other ever since we met in college about 8 months ago. The problem is neither of us have been in a relationship before. He doesn't tell me he likes me or ask me out. He is always holding back and not taking any risks. We keep in contact but we always have to have an "excuse" to meet. I don't want to be clingy but I want to know ...

Cross Dressing Partner

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

Q:: I've been seeing this man for about 4 years. The biggest part of the first two years, we lived miles apart. He would "come home" on week ends. Eventually he found a position closer to home, and we moved in together and we had a baby. After we had lived together for close to a year, I found out that he is a cross dresser or fetishist. He doesn’t seem to have a desire to "pass" or anything like that. He just dresses in these leather outfits and lingerie then masturbates. When I found out initially, I was horrified. Then after a period of time, I thought I could adjust to it. I mean, I rationalized, we have sex together, and he doesn’t ...

This prson must mean a lot to you. The first question I would ask you if you were in my office is whether the lie was really big enough to end an important friendship. Sometimes people do make mistakes. Sometimes they even make terrible mistakes. But if the person istruly, believably sorry, maybe the reason ...

Mom Doesn’t Approve of Inter-racial Marriage

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

Q: : I am an 18 year old white female and i happen to be only attracted to black males. My mother is racist and absolutely does not accept, allow or condone my preference. This has made us grow very far apart from each other and I am very unhappy. I know in my heart that she is wrong for having this belief and interracial relationships are 100% okay. I don't know how to face this or deal with it. I have tried several times to tell her how I feel, try to make her understand and to compromise with her, however, she won't budge. She is set in her ways and her thoughts. Can you help me on this? I am at a loss ...

Friday, June 23rd, 2006

Q. I've been in therapy for 6 years. I feel like I have made progress, but the thing is . . .I still feel like there are so many issues that I need help with. Is 6 years too long to be in therapy for this? Should I be "wrapping it up soon?" I'm concerned because my insurance company wants my t to work toward termination with me. Like I said, I don't think I am ready, and neither does my t. But . . . 6 years . . .am I doing something wrong or too slow of a learner, or something? …I fit the criteria for Borderline Personality Disorder, but don't cut or rant and no longer live a risky life, smoke, or ...

Looking at Graduate School

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

Q. I just completed my sophomore year in college and I am beginning to search for graduate school and make decisions about what I am going to be doing for the rest of my life. I am a psychology major and I'm extremely interested in Drug and Addiction therapy and counseling. As I was doing research for this field of study, though, I was only able to discover jobs for MD's. I do not have the money, nor the motivation for medical school, but I want to do what I can to get in to drug counseling. Can I still go into this vocation with a PsyD. or even just a MA? Or do I need to be looking for another career? A. I ...
