Confidential Messages from Dr. Marie

by Dr. Marie Hartwell-Walker
May 21, 2006

Confidential to Tenn husband: You and your wife are both experts in coping. You soldier on. She escapes into fantasy. But I’m afraid the way that each of you copes individually is hurting the other. I strongly suggest that you ask the oncologist for the names of therapists who work with cancer survivors and their spouses. You both need some support and help in looking at what you want out of your remaining time together.

Confidential to NY grad: It must be painfully ironic to find yourself in such a melodrama. Love shouldn’t be this hard or this crazy-making. I hope you care enough about yourself to get some good help in this very difficult situation. An experienced therapist will give you much needed support while you figure out what to do.
