Q. Ummmm this feels really akwards, but… Okey, I’ve tried suicide about 3 times now… It all has to do with friends getting into fights and expecting me to take one side and if I don’t choose their side, they get mad at me and say things behind my back! My parents fight ALOT. I still love them, but at times, I just don’t want to be there…. or anywhere. Then, my grades have been dropping because I can’t think straight in school and then my homework just keeps coming! My parents only know that I’ve tried 1 time, but they don’t know about the other times. I can hardly sleep anymore and I have my really depressed moments sometimes… That and my eating habits have changed alot. On the weekend, I can go for about a day and a half with out eating and still feel fine. I really don’t know what to do for all of this! And that makes me think about suicide more and more. Please, help?!
A. Attempting suicide is extremely dangerous and absolutely not the correct way to handle the issues you are dealing with. You should talk to your parents about how you have been feeling. Tell them you are having trouble with friends and you need their advice about how to handle difficult situations. Also talk to them about their fighting and how it makes you feel. Talk to them about your grades and how you are having trouble staying focused because you are worried about so many things. Tell them how much stress this is all causing you. They may have no idea what is going on with you. They should know, they may be able to help you. If you feel talking to your parents is a bad idea, then I strongly suggest that you talk to your school counselor. The school counselor can help you learn how to handle your friends and teach you better ways to handle stress.
Given you recent actions, it’s clear you are headed down a dangerous path. The ways you are choosing to handle your issues are not correct. The right thing to do is to talk to someone and get help. You made one good step by writing for advice but now you must take the next step and get help from someone. You are not the first person to experience these problems and you will not be the last. The good news is that your problems can be worked out and are solvable.
Please talk to either your parents or the school counselor. There are two ways to handle this, one, is that you keep doing what you are doing which is dangerous and clearly not working and is not correct. Or two, you can talk to someone who can help you work out your problems in a more rational, healthy way. Try the second way; it is the only correct way. Attempting suicide when things do not go your way will not solve anything. Not eating will only make you sick and nauseous and cause your mood to become more unstable then it already is. Please talk to someone, either your parents or the school counselor about how you have been feeling. Write back and let me know how you are doing. I do wish you the best of luck.
