Eating disorder-too fat?

by Kristina Randle, LCSW
December 17, 2005

Q. I feel like im too fat but my BMI is 24.1 and thats normal. but after i eat sometimes i want to throw up my food just so that i wont feel like a pig. what do i do i got a 43 on the anorexia test. that extreme. what do i do?

A. Purging your food or wanting to throw up your food is not normal. We need food to live and sustain life. You might “feel” like a pig after you’ve eaten but what you “feel” and what is actually true are not always the same. You should talk to your parents about your feelings and if you are not comfortable doing that, talk to a school counselor about your feelings. Be sure to tell someone how you feel so that you can find healthier ways to manage and control your feelings around your weight. In my experience, while practicing at a University Counseling Center, I saw the extreme prevalence of both eating disorders and “cutting” in the female college population. This is sadly becoming a common disorder. I have helped many people with your problem and so have my colleagues. With qualified helped you should do very well. Please let me know how you are doing.
