Just one of those occasional updates for our fellow netizens who
like to read up on the happenings of people.
Two weeks ago I got a cat, even though my fiance is allergic to
them. Someone at work needed to get rid of her, so I felt sorry
for her and took her in. Her name is "Anya" and she is black with
brown spots. She is only about 11 months old, but she is still growing
heartily and is playful as heck. Laurie, my fiance (we got engaged in
August... Shhhhh!), is taking allergy shots for her. Once we live together
again (she's on internship in another state), she'll be fine. I grew up
with cats, so it was about time.
I'm finishing up my first book and hard at work on another. The first
book is devoted to prevention professionals and lists hundreds
of online resources for them. It will be available for sale in early 1997.
The second book will be available in mid-1997 and is a guide to
online resources for psychologists and mental health professionals.
You won't find either at a local bookstore, but when I get done the
second book, I will be looking into writing something for everyone else as well.
I have a lot to say and a lot to share!
Which reminds me... Here's a teaser. In another month or two, I will
be conducting what I hope will be the largest online survey to date
on a wide range of topics, but mainly having to do with how people
use online resources, what they use most when online (e.g., Web,
e-mail, etc.), how much time they spend online, where they go, etc.
I'm looking to examine the usefulness and prevalence of self-help
groups online, as well as looking into the etiology of this thing people
call "Internet Addiction Disorder." Look both here on my Web site and
on many other Web sites for additional information. I wish I could pay
people to take the survey, but really... I'm poor!
I have two conferences I'm attending, one in October and one in
November. At the one in November, I will be presenting a 5-hour
symposium about online topics for professionals. I also had two
articles of mine published in Psychiatric Times in October,
and one to be published in Behavioral Healthcare Tomorrow
in December. In the process of all of this, I'm putting together two
excellent symposia for the 1997 APA convention about online topics.
And continuing education is coming along nicely. I believe we will
launch it by the first of the new year.
A couple of weekends ago we went canoeing and the weather was
just so beautiful! Just a hint of fall in the air, which is now fully realized,
and a fabulous sunny day. We also went hiking. The outdoors has
a way of putting everything into perspective and for me, anyway, it
makes me appreciate life. Beauty. The short time we have on this
Earth to appreciate it all.
Please, take a moment out of your busy life and appreciate
life. There's so much negativity in the air sometimes that it's easy
to overlook....
