OUT OF MY MIND!

AS GOOD AS IT GETS
Go See This Movie

January 9, 1998

If you haven't seen it yet, please go see As Good As It Gets, starring Jack Nicholson as obsessive-compulsive sufferer, Melvin Udall, and Helen Hunt as Carol Connelly, a waitress who suffers along with him, mostly unintentionally. If you think that Nicholson's portrayal of Melvin is meant to say that all OCD sufferers are bitter, sarcastic, humorous characters, you're missing the point of a fictional story. The fact is, though, that the movies are often lacking characters who portray mental disorders in a realistic light. At least this movie is relatively benign in that respect.

This is an uneven story which is hard to classify. It's not exactly a romantic comedy, nor is it a pure drama. A little of everything, and a little bit for everyone who goes to see it. It should easily be one of the best movies which came out in 1997. I enjoyed it and hope you do too.
